We inspected numerous herds in order to find our founding males. Each met our critera for 'Classic' style, excellent conformation, a winning personality, and the ability to work and we out them to the test. They were expected to work in strings of six to eight males carrying full loads across rugged terrain. We made sure they demonstrated their strength and backcountry skill by earning the highest level of Pack Llama Trail Association" (PLTA) certification available at the time.
That wasn't enough. We tested their handleablity and willingness to work closely with people by training them in performance. All did well.
We worked these boys hard to ensure they had the qualities we wanted passed down to future generations. We were not disapointed. Each retained their conformation and skills over a long working life while producing crias who have also proven to be excellent producers and workers.
