Artos, whose name means "strong as a bear" was born in a blizzard and survived. His calm disposition and self-confidence make him the leader of his year-mates. By the time Artos was one week old, he was happily loading in the trailer without his mother present. By the time he was six months-old he was hiking in a string and competently negotiating performance-class obstacles.

Arto's basic training focused on all the things a young llama needs to know work comfortably with humans. This includes being fully handleable, negotiating all manner of obstacles, calmly tolerating new and confusing situations, loading/unloading and traveling without stress. Artos handles these tasks with ease.

Happilly carrying his training saddle, Artos marches out on his field training sessions with the aplomb of an experienced packer. He hikes rocky cattle paths, squeezes through thick brush, and bounces through the snow. Breaks in the cliffs pose no challenge to him and he fairly flies over fallen logs. Even though Artos has to wait until he is two years-old to complete his PLTA Basic Pack Llama certification, he would have no trouble doing it before his first birthday.

Artos is a breeding quality male who comes from a line of proven producers and superb packers. His excellent conformation supports superior athleticism and his calm, engaging personality make him an excellent partner on the trail. His heritage includes:

• Sire: Latitudes Marty McFly, is a PLTA Elite String Pack Llama, one of only three llamas to achieve the highest honor available for a packer. He is an accomplished expedition packer with a steady manner and willingess to work hard. He has traveled well over 1000 trail miles.


• Dam: BLT Wahoo's Calliope is a PLTA Basic Pack Llama, PLTA Advanced Pack Llama, has earned 25 ILR points in performance classes and is a proven producer of performance class winners. She is an easy breeder, birther, and an excellent mother.


• Grandsire: UC Wahoo was a reserve champion at halter and one of nine llamas to earn PLTA Elite Pack Llama certificates, and was a foundation sire for our herd. He produced 16 crias all of whom completed PLTA pack llama certifications and have extensive packing histories. Wahoo's resume


• Great-grandsire: A Patchy Warrior, was a PLTA Master Pack Llama at a time when that was the highest certification available, and a National Champion at halter and in performance.He was renowned for his calmness, his driving skill and his ability to work with children.
